Navigating the process of homecare oxygen therapy can be overwhelming, especially when it’s a new experience. At Respocare, we’re here to make this journey as smooth as possible, providing you with the tools and support you need. This guide will walk you through every step, ensuring that you receive the best care possible.
Step 1: Visiting a Specialist
Your homecare oxygen therapy journey begins with a visit to a specialist, typically a pulmonologist or another respiratory care provider. During this appointment, your doctor will assess your condition and determine if you require supplemental oxygen. If so, they will write a prescription, often referred to as an "oxygen script."
Step 2: Respocare Receives Your Prescription
Once your oxygen script is written, it will be sent to Respocare. This can happen in several ways:
Online Submission: Some specialists prefer to send prescriptions directly to us online.
Through Respocare's Platform: Our integrated system allows specialists to submit oxygen therapy prescriptions securely and efficiently.
Physical script scanned and sent: If your specialist prefers, they can also provide a physical copy, where the can scan the script and email it to sales@respocare.co.za
Step 3: Personalized Follow-Up
After receiving your prescription, our dedicated Respocare team will reach out to both you and your specialist to ensure that all details are clear. We’ll discuss your specific needs, your current location, and the best setup for your home oxygen therapy.
Step 4: Setting Up Your Home Oxygen Therapy
Based on your prescription, we will determine which stationary oxygen concentrator is right for you. These devices are essential for patients needing continuous oxygen, delivering a steady flow of oxygen with a purity level of 97% or higher.
You can explore the different types of stationary concentrators we offer here, each designed to provide reliable, high-purity oxygen. Along with the concentrator, your homecare oxygen therapy will include necessary consumables such as:
Humidifier Bottle: Prevents dryness while using oxygen therapy.
Cannula: A comfortable, lightweight device that delivers oxygen through your nose.
Tubing: Connects your oxygen concentrator to your cannula.
We offer several Starter Packs to get you going:
Basic Starter Pack: Includes a 25ft tubing, cannula, and a 7ft humidifier bottle.
Starter Pack Plus: Adds a pulse oximeter to measure your oxygen saturation levels.
Exclusive Pack: Includes a pulse oximeter and an OPEP Aerobika device, which helps improve lung function.
Step 5: Backup Options for Peace of Mind
We highly recommend that all patients have a backup oxygen cylinder in case of emergencies, such as power outages. This ensures that you always have access to the oxygen you need, no matter the situation.
Step 6: Mobility and Portable Oxygen Concentrators
If you’re an active individual or need to be on the go, Respocare offers portable oxygen concentrators. These devices are ideal for patients who need supplemental oxygen while working, traveling, or enjoying adventures.
Our team will work closely with you to determine which portable oxygen concentrator best meets your needs. To learn more about portable oxygen concentrators, check out
